Global Tequila Market sales are expected to increase from USD 11.04 billion (2023) to USD 18.49 billion (2033), with a CAGR (of 6%) during this forecast period. Tequila, a distilled liquor, is made from blue agave plants. It is only found in certain regions of Mexico like Jalisco and Tamaulipas. Tequila is made from the fermented juices obtained from the Weber blue-agave plant. Tequila was discovered by a less-known civilization on the South American continent. It has an unusual earthy flavor and an alcoholic kick. Tequila can be found in Mexico, depending on the region and the type of agave. There are four types of tequilas on the market: Blanco, reposado and anejo.
Growing Demand:
The tequila market can be divided into Blanco and Joven based on product type. The Blanco segment will dominate growth over the forecast period. Blanco is also known as Plata tequila or silver tequila. After being distilled, this type of tequila can be bottled unaged and packaged. Some producers allow the spirit to settle for several weeks before bottling. Blanco Tequila is seeing increased demand due to its pure form and the fact that it isn’t being aged in barrels. It retains the true appeal of blue agave’s sweetness.

The rise of cocktail culture is a result of many societies. The rise in economic status has been a major driver for cocktail culture. Tequila is now a popular ingredient in cocktails. It’s not just available in bars and restaurants, but also at home. You can also observe a shift in the market, particularly among younger people, from binge drinking to sophisticated drinking like tequila.
Furthermore, tequila is now available to all sexes, despite the fact that society has changed and become more open-minded in recent years. There has been an increase in demand for handcrafted Tequila in countries like the U.S.
According to data from Distilled Spirits Council’s Economic & Strategic Analysis Department, tequila consumption increased from 7 million 9 liters cases in 2003 to 15,000,000 9 liters cases in 2015. There are many factors that contribute to tequila market expansion, including economic improvement and improvement in infrastructure.
There are very few things that can stop the global growth of tequila markets: decreased agave plant cultivation, conflict in Mexico, and rises in fuel and energy costs.
Trends:
One of the main factors driving global tequila industry growth is a significant increase in the popularity of cocktail culture, both inside and outside the house. Due to the changing lifestyles of people and rising incomes, premium and handcrafted tequilas are becoming more popular. To expand their product range, some of the top players have introduced variants made with natural ingredients such as strawberry, mango, pineapple, coconut tangerine, and strawberry. To increase their sales, they also offer canned tequila cocktails that are both convenient and economical. To stop the spread and spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19), several governments have instituted complete lockdowns as well as social distancing measures. While sales of tequila on-premises have declined, some countries are seeing an increase in demand for alcoholic beverages via e-commerce channels.
Recent Development:
Avion, a brand owned by Pernod Ricard, introduced Avian Reserva Crystalino Tequila in February 2022. The new tequila blends 12-month-old Anejo with a touch of extra Anejo Reserva.
Suntory Holdings Limited’s Tres Generaciones Tequila brand introduced also Cristalino in February 2022. This is the new premium offering. Tres Generaciones master distiller-distillers at La Presencia distillery, Jalisco created the crystal-clear liquid.
Bacardi added a premix RTD in April 2021 to its portfolio of tequila brands Cazadores in America. The RTD, which has an abv 5.9%, is made from 100% blue gave. It comes in spicy margarita and Paloma flavors.
